A tree reaching a height of 20 m and a diameter of 80 cm. Bark is blackish, rather fissured and uneven. Leaves are 10-25 cm long alternate, feathery, oblong, pointed at 8 the apex, rounded or obtuse at the base. Fruit is large, fleshy up to 10 cm in diameter, densely covered with golden brown hairs. Wood. Color: uniform jet black or black brown or streaked; sapwood pink colored when freshly cut, darkening to a pale red brown, very variable in width; Grain: straight to slightly interlocked or somewhat curly; Texture: Fine; Metallic luster; very durable.
