150 mm high. It is the largest of the genus, almost smooth on the later whorls, except for fine radial striae. Above the sutures are angular,tubular nodules an a raised band on the early whorls, both of which disappear on the later whorls. In large adults the last whorl is sometimes very swollen, the otherwisw straight side becoming very concave at the bottom. The base has fine growth lines and axial striae; umbilicate with a smooth columella. It is white with red-brown axial stripes. A common shell, it has been finished commercially for making pearl buttons and the like.
